Donedin, January 21. The Ofcugo Daily Times saya the notion of 2»lr Seddoa in acceding to the request of the Imperial authorities calls for the approval of all patriotic citizens. All the O&ago members who have replied to the Premier's telegram have approved of despatching ti'e Ninth Contingent in view of the Imperial authorities having asked for men. At the Bame time several have expressed regret that the necessity should have arisen. Air A, R, Barclay says:— \l have supported, and do support the sending of contingents. If the contingents are really wanted, they must go it the men can ha found for them. National suickb would be the result of each man saying' I disapprove of this war, therefore I won't fight and will try and prevent others fighting.' The true position for one who thinks war is avoidable is to Bay : —' We'll do all the fighting that is necessary, but we'll take care that the responsibility of the trouble is put on the right shoulders.'"—Press. The Timaru Herald states that on Tuesday the Mayor of Timaru, Mr C, N. Macintosh, wired as follows :—" Hon. W. Hall-Jones, Wellington. He Ninth Contingent. —Would it not be possible to make Timaru the port of departure for the South Island portion of thig Contingent ? The number of men and officers who have hailed from Scuth Canterbury, and the good work done by them, merit the district receiving the suggested honour. Do your best for us."
