; ADDINGTON MARKETS. [By Telegraph.] Christchurch, January 8. Medium entries were the rale ia most classes of stock to-day, and there was a good attendance. Cattle.—Fat cattle yarding comprised 152 head, the bulk of which were light to medium heifers and cows. Steers were very scarce, only half a dozen fair sorts coming to auction, a few prime, ,being sold privately. The sale opened at about last week’s rates, but' the short supp'y caused a considerable improvement and beef ranged from 17s 6d to 24a per 1001 b; steers making £6 10s to £8 10a; heifers, £5 5s to £8 17s 6d ; and cows, £5 to £3l7s 6d. Store and dairy cattle : Theie were small entries of secondary sorts in both classes, and business is not brisk. Fat Sheep.—There was a heavyyarding, a large proportion being , ewes, but the quality all round was good, especially so in merinos. Store sheep: The bulk of the yarding of 2489 were lambs, and for these there was a very good demand with an improvement in prices. A line of 336 two and four tooth wethers in the wool made 13s, and small lota of shorn 12s 6d, small lots of lambs made 10s 8d to lls 6d, while 842 brought ils Id, 400 10s 9d to lls, 300 10s fid, 268 10s, and 500 to 10s 7d. Two fair sized linos of ewes with lambs were passed at 8a 2d and 8s 7d, and a few small lots of secondary brought 6s 3d to 6s lOd, all counted.

Pigs.—The yarding of pigs was a large one, including a lot of very prime baconers. Owing to the factories being bare, there was keen competition for these, and prices rose about 4d per head. Porkers were slightly weaker, and the demand for stores was not strong. Baconers made from 85s to 45s for light, and up to 53s for heavy, averaging per lb ; porkers, 22s to 325, equal to 3fcl; stores 12s to 20s, and suckers and weaners 5s to 10s.

THE SOUTHLAND WOOL SALES. Invercargill, January 6. At the first wool sale of the season held to-day, 3077 bales were offered, being about one-third of the usual offerings at this sale, the cause being the continuous wet weather. For fine lustrous crossbred there was keen competition, and prices were above the present London quotations. Course crossbred mot a good enquiry at equivalent to London values, and the bulk was sold. The prices ranged as follows Half and fine crossbreds, to Gjjd; good crossbred, 4d to 5d ; ordinary coarse do., 3d to 4d ; bellies, 2d to 21d. Merino brought up to 7d, and generally speaking sellers got a little more than they anticipated.
