Earthquake at Cheviot.

A severe shock of earthquake was experienced at Cheviot at 2.25 a.m. this morning, ranking as one of the biggeafc since the first disturbance. It WH9 accompanied by load booming, which kept np some time, and was interspersed with light ehocks and tremors. Beyond slight damage to brickwork, nothing | serious is reported. Disappointment is felt by the settlers at the recurrence of the shocks, but there is no panic. Wellington, January 3.

The postmaster at Cheviot wired thafc a violent shock of earthquake occurred at 2.26 a.m. to-day, preceded by tremendous boomings, and followed by light shocks.
