The Eighth Contingent.
The twelve men for Tirnaru include no fewer than ten returned members of various contingents. The other two are members of the South Canterbury Mounted Rifles. 1 Wellington, December 28. It is understood that Colonel Davies accepted the command of the Eighth Contingent at a conference with the Premier on Christmas Eve. Colonel Davies ana the acting-Commandant (Major Owen) have been entrusted with the selection of the 41 officers required, and as both are now away from Wellington, and unlikely to return till the beginning'of the New Year, it is unlikely ‘that any announcement will be made for some few flays.
