Waimate Choral and Orchestral Union.
A "combined gendral and musical committee meeting was held on Thursday evening, -present Mrs Hamilton and Miss Turubull, • and Messrs 0. J. Goldatone, F. Akhurst, W. M. Hamilton, VV. L. Scott and 0. Akhurst (bon. sec). .' In the absence df the President, Mr: Goldstone was voted to the chair. After confirmation of last 'meeting's minntes, the secretary's action in getting the new staging built was confirmed. _ x The treasurer, -Mr W. L. Scott, reported that the recent concert showed a small credit balance. The, cash in hand to date was £24 5s Id, and out standing accounts amounted to i£27. There were still a few subscriptions due from honorary and working members, which will bring the cash in hand to JEBO, showing an estimated credit balance at the end of the year of 3 - As the cash in bind was nbtfaumcient to meet existing liabilities it was •resolved that those members still in arrears be urgently . requested to forward their subscriptions, to treasurer at once. * . . On the motion of Mr So&tt, Seconded T>y Mr F. Akhurst, it was resolved that the annual meeting be held on tho 18th February next, in order that practices might start v ßt the beginning of Inarch, I and thus allow the season to be closed a month earlier than was the ca«e thia .year, , \ .-\ . ' - On the motion of Mr F, Akhurat, seconded by Mrs it was resolved that a 'recommendation
to the new committee that the first concert be a public one, and a popular miscellaneousprogramme be presented.
As the funds in band are not sufficient to enable the socitty to purchase suitable music from Home, it was resolved that the secretary endeaVonr to procure •" suitable 'glees,' arid' also Mendelssohn's " Hymn of Praise," and Macfarren's " May Day," from the Inveroargill Musical Union. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr C. E. Bremner for the great assistance be had rendered the society in drawing up plans and estimates for the new staging, which had proved avery great success. A hearty vote of thanks was also passed to the conductor (Mr C, J. Goldstone), for his invaluable' services during the past season. Accounts amounting to 'iS27 were passed for ; payrrient. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair. -
