(FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.) STUDHOLME JUNCTION. The crops on the clayey oxposed lands here are beginning i.o show signs of roivgh treatment. On the lower lands it is not so notieo.ih!n, but unless wo get rain very soon, I am afraid we will be i'arshoitxif our average yields* in this xlisti ict this year. The gras3 also shows signs of running up very thin, and does not cover the ground as we should like to see it. The bird pest 3 are just now very bad on the seeds, such as mangold and t'irnipa. I have noticei them pulling up tho growing plants as they peep through the gufr-baked surface of the soil. The fruit trees bave set well, especially the pears, cherries, agricts and apices ; the plums seem to have be«n affected by the lato frosts. The small fruits promise well, but I am sorry to notice that the strawberry is again troubled with the destructive l>af blight. To combat thi-s blunt one grower has dressed about 1000 plants with flour of sulphur and about 4000 plants he has sprayed with Bordeaux mixture. I shall write and let you know the results. To combat fungus and scab pests on pears and upoles, etc., he sprayed with the same 'mix ure, and I believe with the very best results. Mock of all descriptions are doing fairly <u-11, bu'. the ownens are beginning to.fael sisinawhat nnxiuui as to future to d prospects. Most ownoi-s are somewn".t heavily stocked and lamb 3 are coming o.i fast. The Hannaton School Committee have got a good well sunk and concreted, and have a'-so an' up-to date pump attached. Thi* is not before it Wits needed, a* the cliikfreii have bean iu the habit of carting their own water to drink. '-' The cresmery is jwst about finished, and I hear the expects it to be in fud swing ah.mfc the huddle of next month. There are a large number of Nuppliei-8, and though th-> weather is against a good supply of grass, I feel sure later on the creamery will be a boon to this district. Mr Wallaos, our telcg aphisfc, has boon transferred to Dunsandel, and he carries with him the g< od wishes of all the residents of this district. During his stay here he his proved himself a most courteous and obliging officer. " Your own '"' has to thank him for nwy kind oonßi'ierations received. It is a a trange fxeik of the Department that just as we get to know and appreciate our officers the Department decide to shii't th?m.
