ADDINGTON LIVESTOCK MARKET. [by telegraph.] JDhristchuech, October 23. There was a fair entry of slock in the yards and a good attendance. Sheep.—ln the store sheep pens there were 1864 offered, mostly ewes and lambs, but the sale was a very dull one, and two-thirds of the entry was passed. A few woolly wethers made 13s 9d to 14s 6d. and 143 shorn 12s ; 150 hoggets were sold at 13s sd, and 142 shorn at 9s; 45 woolly hoggets (with lambs), 18s Id; a few ewes in the wool and lambs made 7s 6d all counted, and others were passed at 6s 9d to 8s 9d. There were 188 fat lambs penned, and they sold readily at 14s 6d to 17s for best, and 12s 6d to 14s for others. The supply of fat sheep was a medium one, and the sale opened very dull and with little or no demand for freezers.
Cattle. —In the fat cattle pens there were 122 bead offered, the bulk being good to prime steers. Values were ftbout equal to last week’s sale, being equal to 21s to 27s 6d per lOOlbs. A line of fourteen steers from Leslie Hills made £9 to £l2, and eight on behalf of the late Mr 8. Garforth’s estate £l2 10s to £l3 7» 6d; other steers sold at £7 5s to £l2; heifers, £5 10a to £7 10s; cows, £5 5a to £8; extra to £9. Pigs.Vriiere was a medinm entry of pigs and an improved demand all round, with better prices. Baconera made 38s to 52a 6d, equal to 3fd per lb; small stores, 10s to 15e; suckers and weauers, 6s to 8s 6d.
GRAIN MARKETS. The North Otago Times, reporting on the Oamarn markets, says:—A few small lines of wheat have changed hands at quotations, but the only ouliefc is the limited requirements of local millers, whose stocks are sufficient for some time to come. Oats have firmed a litt'e >'uring the week, and 2s Id delivered has been given for) some lines lor shipment to South Africa, but orders are now nearly full. Freshly picked potatoes have advanced to 80s and 82s 6i, and unpcked . 10s Wheat—Prime Tuscan, 2ssid; prime velvet, 2s 5;1; red chaff 2s 5^(1; fowl wheat, 2s 2d to2» 3d’; seconds, 2s Id. Oats—’Danish, 2s to 2s Oid ; duns, nominal; prime short, 2s Id; m.lling, nominal; Oarton’u, 2s Barley—Piime samples, 2s ; ordinary samples; Is 10d (nominal). Potatoes, 70s to 72s 6d, on trucks at sidings (sacks in); freshly picked, 80s to 82s 6d.
DUNEDIN GRAIN MARKET. Messrs Donald Reid and Co. of Dunedin report that they held their weekly sale of produce on Monday and quote as follows: r Oats.—Prime feed lots command ready rale. Prime milling, 2« 5Jd; good to best feed, 2s 4d to 2a 5d ; medium 2s to 2s 3d. . Wheat.—Prime milling and fowl wheat command ready sale. Prime milling, 2s 9d to 2s lOd ; medium to good, 2s 7&d to 2s B£d; whole fowl wheat, 2s 6d; broken and damaged, 2s to 2s fid. .■ .Potatoes.—Supplies heavier during the week. Prime Derwehts realised last week’s quotations, Prime Derwmts £4 15s to £5 ; medium do* £4 to £4los; 'other sorts, £3 to £4.
Chaff—Prime quality baa been fairly firm at late quotations. Prime oaten sheaf, £3 7a, to £3 10a; medium to good, £2'loa'to £3; inferior, £2 to £2 103.
ENGLISH MARKET. Messrs Dalgety and Company hare received the following cable message, dated London, October Bth" Thy frozen meat market is dull, bat prices are not qnotably lower. Prices for batter are somewhat firmer. Since our last telegram prices of leather and baxils in general are from id to id per lb higher - .” ' The Agent'General’s cablegram, dated London, r October 19;b, received at Wellington yesterday, ie as follows: Canterbury mutton, 3gd per lb; Dunedin and Southland, 3£d; North I«lan<i, 3|d. The Papanui’s damaged o*rowws realised dull, and the market is oversnpplied with heavy carcasefc.' River Plate market is in large, eupply. There |ias been no alteration in the lamb market, since last week. Beef i* weak. , Supplies of River Plate beef are large; New'Zealand bind* B|d ; fores 2|d There is a good, demand for ' butter; Ganadiah. llGs ; Danish, 1375. Cheese is dull; Canadian 455.
