eventually picked up a loaded sixchambered revolver (kept in consequence of the late 'burglar scare), and going up close to Mrs Renwiok shot her in the face, the bullet entering below the mouth and emerging at the neck, below the' angle of the jaw. An \ expressman named Russell, hearing the shot, arrived on the scene and prevented further mischief, as Mrs Pearce still threatened Mrs Ben wick with the revolver. The latter was conveyed to the hospital, as also was her mother, who had been soalded with the hot water throwc . When arrested Mrs Pearce was quite cool, and assumed a defiant attitude, saying, " I'm not going to be skull dragged by these women." She was charged with; shooting with intent and remanded for eight days. Bail was allowed, accused in £IOO and two sureties of £'so each, or one of £IOO.
