Railway Lighting.

Yesterday a number ot passengers at Stiulholtne Junction were interested at seeing the train examiner from Oamara (Mr Nightingale) chargiug the gas cylinders of the railway carriages. The store whence the gas was derived was a huge cylinder 20 feet long by 6 feet high which, on a special trolly, travels from place to place as required, being itself charged at Dunedin or Ghristchnrch. Ou the side of this cylinder is a plug to which is coupled a hose already conneoted withthecylinder under the carriage. Each has a pressure guage set to hours of supply at a known pressure, and when the guage registers 85, which happens in four or five minutes, the flow is cut off at either end, a cap screwed on, and the operation is complete.
