Acclimatisation Society.

g A meeting of the united council of the Waitakl and Waimate | Acclimatisation Society was held > at Waimate on Thursday evening, t there being present—Waitaki; r Messrs A. Familton (president), E. Farr and H, Macintosh (aecre tary) j Waimate» Messrs S. J. Adams (president), F. Jones, W. Oheverfcon, B. Smith and J. Sinclair (secretary). Mr Familton presided. The action of the Waitaki Society’s secretary, with reference to the extension of the sanctuary J for native game at Lake Ohau, I was approved. The secretary was instructed to write to the Government, asking that the shooting season tor the South Island should be made to start in May. The meeting resolved that it should be a recommendation from the united council that the president of each branch should be retained as long as be wta willing to act, as_ his experience would enable the business of the Society to be better Conducted, and to give now members valuable information.

After discussion, the matter of deer stalking licensed was left to the Waitaki Council to decide what proportion, if any, was to be paid to Waimate. The question of the importation of waterfowl was gone into, and the secretary was instructed to write to Victoria and New Sooth Wales asking what variety of waterfowl could be supplied, and at what price, the Society to arrange the proportion to be paid by each branch. Mr Familton paid a tribute to the great services Mr Sinclair bad rendered to the cause of

acclimatisation in both Waimate and Oamarn. Mr Sinclair’s un-

tiring efforts had made Waimate the society it was, and this had sparred oa the Oamara branch to try and be wscceeafnl. He moved that a hearty vote of thanks should be given to Mr Sinclair.

The motion was carried by acclamation, and a vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
