Dr Symos, Health Officer for Canterbury, is\still buaily engaged io Waimate and district. He has visited the Hook in connexion with certain cswes of typhoid fever that bad occurred there, and also inspected the Hook school buddings, in regard to which he has important recommendations to make to the Education Board.
Constable and Mrs Shepherd, of Kurow, are in town at present.
Mr J. F. Douglaa, of Wftihao D iwns, ha« been nominated as ft director of the Canterbury Farmer*’ Co-operative Association, and has consented to stand for election. The tender of Messrs Simpson and Andrews, of Timaru, has been accepted for the erection of the Waimate Hotel, and yesterday the contractors made a start to clear the ground before putting in the foundations.
