ENGINEER’S REPORT. The following is the report submitted by the County Engineer on Wedne»« day:— Upper Pareora Riding.—The surfaceman had been principally employed on Pratt’s, Craigmohr and Pareora to Canningtori Roads during the month. Before next .meeting the necessary bridge repairs on some of the back roads would be dealt with, the materials for these having been ordered. Lower Pareora Riding.—Contract 383on the Pareora Middle Road had bo<-0 finished. The surfacemen had be'rt engaged breaking metal on different roads. Provision had been made for draining the road through the obstruction on Bell’s frontage. Otaio Riding—Contract 393 ofl thd Main Not th Road had been finished as fir ns the carting was concerned, and breaking was now in progress. Thet metal was of fair quality. Makikihi Rid ; ng—Contract 392 on tlrtt | Main North Road was commenced oil Alien'd 21sr. Guard fences had been placed on the north approach of Merry’s bridge for the better protection of the public, and to facilitate the passage of stock. Notice nhould be given to Mf Merry to make provision for the passage of the road drrinage benetvh his private entrance to his as this is detrimental to the rovl surf ice.
Deep Or°ek Riding -The rrpai-s tot’ & Wtimate Creek bridge on the South Rood, mentioned Inst month, wer® finished, bnt further repairs would require attention when the materials com* to hind* Contracts for work in the on Timarn Road, Main North Rond andHanna’on Road were in hand.--Surface repairs on Parker’s Bush Road had been partially attended to, and would he finished in the summer. Notice should be given to the proprietors of theCentrewood Estate, requiring them to duplicate the culvert oppo.-ite Foley’s oft the North Bush Road. Tarious gravel sites about Studholmo Junction had been visited* but in all the covering < f soil was too deep and ho recommended that shafts should be sunk in various localities to find a shallower pit. .Waihao Riding—Works on Piko'B Point Back Road, Waitaki Main Road and Morven Railway Station Road were finished during the month. The aho>& length of Takitu Road fronting Mr Deacon's was let, and it was then being opened for traffic. The report was adopted, and the various suggestions are to be carried out.
