A two this afternoon, the nine-roomed bouse of Mr R. Mackay, Deep Creek, was destroyed by fire. It was a two-storied wooden building, and the fire broke out in the upper storey. He he-ird the"Toaring of the fire, and called to three young men passing on the road. These, with neighbours, rushed in and saved a considerable amount of furniture-and other articles, -but the greater part was destroyed. The building and contents were; 1 insured in the South British Insurance Company for £l7O, and Mrs Mackay had £SO on her personal property, which was all destroyed. The loss is estimated at £250.
Mr and Mrs Mackay were'kindly offered temporary lodgings by all their neighbours, and they‘are now staying with Mr Stuart.
