Ricardo Libel Case.
Brisbane, August 21. In'the Ricardo libel case, Captain Douse gave evidence that he heard Colonel Chauvei urging Colonel Ricardo to obey an order to advance. The latter replied “No fear. We are safe here.” Others gave evidence that at Vet River Colonel Ricardo w’hen ordered to advance replied that ho was quite willing to do so, but “it will be Colonel FilcheVs fault if I am killed.” August 22. 'lntense interest has been taken in the Ricardo case. The Court has been densely crowded throughout the seven days’ trial. Counsels’ and Judge’s addresses occupied several hours. The Judge summed up strongly in favour of Colonel. Ricardo. His Honour said thac on every other occasion throughout the campaign he had shown great bravery, and was not likely to have shown the white feather when he was stuck in the fence. The weight of the evidence was against his having uttered the words attributed to him on that occasion. The jury, after a four boars’ retirement, re-tli-ned a verdict Tor plaintiff, and awarded him £SUJ damages, with costs.
