Education Board.

The monthly meeting of the South Canterbui-y Education Board took place yesterday, all the .members being present. A good deal of business was transacted, though some few matters, for lack of time, had to stand over. Certain committees, Scholarship and Building, were elected for the ensuing year. 'The following tenders. being the lowest in each case, wore accepted ; —Waihaorunga school and residence combined —Foden, £lsOl 8s ; additions to Morvon school —Foden, £l2O ; Hazleburn, various repairs— Bates, £BS ; Pleasant Valley, do.— Cooper, £l2. Tenders for janitor’s house and repairs at VVaimate school were held ever for further consideration. Mr Barclay repotted on preparations to be made for temporary accommodation at Waibao Downs. The Board decided te make additions to the school at Redcliff, and also to go on with shifting the school at Waicaki village settlement to a more suitable site. The-following money grants for various purposes were made :—■ Waimate, • £32 ; Waituna, £4 ; Cricklewood, £2 ; Lower Waitohi, £9 ; Hazleburn, £9. Directions were given to the architect to prepare plans and specifications for the new school at Waikakahi. The architect was instructed to report on Fairview, Opihi, Pleasant Valley, and a numbei of other places asking for outlay on various objects. Applications for teacherships ware sent to Hilton and liakatararaea Valley School Committees. Mr Barclay drew the attention of the Board to the expediency of allowing plans and specifications to lie a Jong time in the various centres for examination. Mr Farnie gave notice of motion re alterations in scholarship regalations. Mr Keddio is moving to do away with the condition of being twelve months in a place before a teacher could apply for a change.
