WAIMATE WATER supply.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have just read the report »t M-sts Meason andl Merchant on the water supply for this town, which 1 think is br th reasonable and fair t and will' answer all purposes for a long time to come. Then surplus water can be g.t out of the town vrry easy, as there is plenty of f 11, and a natural water course from Qi«en B‘reet to the Creek; Ti.a reservoir being 200 feet above the town will give a pressure < f 1001 b on the wat-f main to Ibe square im-h, which will be quite sufficient for »!• fire pn-poses, and will reduce the insurance very much j also the doctors bills, as all the wed water is very bad and getting scarcer and more polluted every year, by ths dirty water from the surface percolating th-ough the porous strata of shingles to the wells. I hope-the Council at. their meeting gn Wednesday will accept this report rf Messrs Meason and Marchant and go on "With the work at once. The late fire could have been pat out if there had heed this water available. If there bad been a strong wind blowing at the time of the fire one half the town would have been burned down. I don’t know how the Teetotallers get on. I have been frightened to drink Waimute water for a long ;time, and had to drink tea, milk and been If I could get.good water I should .drink less beer, as a fellow must drink Something. I was born with a dry throat •and haws to wet it sometimes, especially ••when the weather is hot and-I am work-* inghardr—lam»tto lt mjam
