Thursday, August Ist. (Before Major Keddell, S.M.) SUPPLYING LIQUOR TO A PROHIBITED PERSON. A young woman was charged with the above offence, and pleaded guilty. The prohibited person had asked her to procure the liquor for a sick child, and on this account her mother had directed her to go. Mr Hamilton appeared for the defence. Accused was fined £3 or iu default 14 days' imprisonment, 14 days being allowed in which to pay the fine. I COUNSELLING THE PROCURING OF LIQUOR. The prohibited person was charged with asking the previous accused to procure liquor. She pleaded guilty, and was fined £5. CATTLE TRESPASS. Ralph FotL'jr, charged with allowing two head of cattle to wander on the railway line at Glonavy, pleaded guilty, but thai tho straying was accidental. Mr v.hke, on behalf of the Railway Department, called evidence to ' show that the cattle habitually. strayed. Josiah Seaman, railway ganger, saw the cattle on the line for half' an hour, and had several times ' warned defendant about allowing . the cattle to. wander. Defendant staled that foe boy in ' charge told him the straying was partly accidental, and he believed: him. Mr White asked that any costs should be paid by the defendant and not by the ratepayers of the colony. Accused was fined £2, with costs and witnesses expenses 7s, and • solicitor's fee, £2 2s. A. Philip v. Wilson Bros., claim £24. Mr Clement appeared for defend- ; ants. One of them had not been served with a summons, and-the case was accordingly adjourned till next court day. DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined IDs. Friday, August 2nd. (Before Coltman and Petit, J's.P.) DRUNKENNESS. ' WilKam Fahey, William Travis, : and John Mathieson were fined 5s I each, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. . . j The latter accused alsft pleaded s pleaded guilty to using obscene language on Thursday night. Evidence \sa given by <i. Valk , to show the -nature of the language, and accused was sentenced'to seven days' imprisonment in Timaru gaol. 'STONE-THROWING. A youtig man charged a boy of fifteen with assaulting him. by throwing stones. The plaintiff had a very bad face, nose «nd chin being much'cut'about, v Defendant pleaded guilty, but oalled evidence to show provocation. ■ Defendant was fined 5s with 7a costs.
