Meetings.

At Nukuroa on Tuesday evening the local Baud of Hope held a : successful meeting. The chair was : taken by Miss Munro. Songs, recitations, and dialogues were given by members and much appreciated. Speeches by the Rev. d. Blight and Mr Sides, of Morven, were both humorous and instructive. Mr 0. Dash gave a scientific lecture Illustrating the question, “Is Alcohol a Food?” A lengthy meeting was brought to .a close by the benediction. CONCERT IN WAIMATE, St. Augustine's, schoolroom was well filled last evening, the occasion being the first concert in aid of .the proposed technical classes in, mate. Previous to his item, Mt Pitcaithly thanked the audience (or its attendance, and announced that these concerts would be given fortnightly,. the next being the comedy, “ Alexander the Great/* After the interval, songs Were acceptably rendered by Mrs Hamilton, and Messrs Horley, J. W* Manchester, Hoskingi and Ferguson, and a violin solo by Miss Turnbull was much enjoyed* The takings amount to‘ nearly Jl4, and, with the subsidy, will be An acceptable addition to the funds of a worthy object. The committee o£ the classes were in some doubt as to the legality of their constitution, but it has been ascertained that no and they will immediately get to work*
