Ke then referred to a previous meeting, >it which it had been" decided to pat up a wooden addition to the church, and went on to say that after hearing the opinion of the Bir-hop and many other great anthoritios, and after tiiiliking the matter over most seriously, he' had come to the conclusion that it would bo preferable to erect a substantial addition, which w.'tild form the beginning of a sphmdid place of worship, a church which would be a credit to the Catholic comtminity and more worthy of its Divine guest. This addition would probably cost between £ISOO or £l6oo* He added -that the undertaking had been rendered very easy for them by the generous gift of a gentleman who had promised the sum of £4OO for the erection of the sanctuary, thus bringing the amount in hand . to".nearly £1000; an announcement which was received .with j £,reat applause. The Rev. Father O'Connell also spoke. He said that God had manifested His will by inspiring that gentleman to make such a magnificent; ofler, and as this was the last great work the Catholics of this district wsuld
be called upon to perform fo some time to come, he felt sur thee would be but one opinio! and would assist most generously The plans were then examinee and explained to the meeting and it was moved by Mr Jour O'Connor, and seconded by Mi Frank Lundon, " That this meeting heartily approves of . the proposal to enlarge the St. Patrick's Church in some solid material, aud further more that it pledges itself to co operate in erery way in bringing about its completion as soon as possible." The motion was unanimously and enthusiastically carried. A committee was then elected, and, on -the motion of Mr Jeremiah Sullivan, three hearty cheers were given for tne generous benefactor. .The new church promises to be a fine aru: imposing structure. The architect is to receive instructions to proceed with the. specifications with iv,i little delay as possible.
