The Choral Society.
The committee of the Waimate Choral Society has decided to hold their first concert for this season on Tuesday, August 6th. It will be by invitation, and the first part will comprise “ St. Cecilia’s Day,” by J. Van Bree, and the second part will be of miscellaneous items. Bohearsals are being well attended, and the concert promises to be a great success, A second concert (Cowan’s “ Rose Maiden ”) is being arranged for the end of the year. The Society has lost several members lately by removals from the district, but those coming in have more than made up the strength. To illustrate this it may be mentioned that last year the orchestra comprised first and second violins, viola, ’cello, double bass and cornet, whi e this year it musters first and second violins, viola, ’cello, double bass, flute, cornet, tenor horn and trombone.
