ADDINGTON STOCK MARKETS

Christchurch, July 17.

There was a fair yarding of stock in all departments, and business generally was good. In the store sheep pens there was a mixed entry of 2255, and there was a capital demand for all classes, and a clearance was effected at auction at the following rates Sheep.—-186 forw rd wethers sold at 17s 7d ; 150 at 16s sd; 204 at 15s lid ; 187 at 34s 7d to 15s 3d ; small lots, 13s 10 1 to 16s 6d ; 150 sound mouth halfbred ewes, 18s; small lots of crossbred ewes, 12a .fed to 15s 6d ; 106 hoggets, 13s 41 ; 82 at 13s 3d ; 150 at 12s lid ; 339 at 12s Id; and small lots 9s Id-to 13s 3d; :oThere was a-moderate entry of fat lambs, and competition not facing very brisk, paces were again rather easier ranging from 12s to 16s. There was a large yarding of fat sheep, and including some prime lines of freezers, and the market op-ned Well for both wethers and ewes.

Cattle. —The supply of beef comprised 168 head, mostly good quality, and Under f -ir competition last week’s rates were fairly maintained. A bullock sold ,pn behalf of the late Mr Gnrforth’s estate made £l4, being bought by Messrs H. B. Lane and Son, and nine head from Mr W. F M. Buckley, Dunsands 1, realised £9 12s 6d to £ll 10s { other steers brongnt £6 10s to £lO 7a 6d ) heifers, £5 15’ to £8 15’; and cows, £5 10s t> £8 10s, equal to 20s to 24s per 1001 b, according to quality. There was a large yarding of store catte, and a good demand was shown for all sorts. Fourteen three year-old steers made £5 9s; 13 two-year old heifers, £3 10a ; and dry cowp- £1 lt» to £4 ss. A large line of two and a-half year steers were sold , privately.

Pigs—The entry of pigs was unde - the average, b vcom rs and stores being in sho* t supply- There wai fair competition up to a certain limit, baoohers making 36a to 455, 'nd up to 53s 6d for extra heavy weights, equal to sid per lb; porkers, 22s to 31», equal to 3Jd to 3£d; stores, 10a to 16a; and suckers and Weauers, 6s to Bs.
