Proposed Mail Service.
Brisbane, July 13. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr Ramsay, representing the Oceanic Steamship Company, read a paper on the advantage of a direct mail service between Brisbane and San Francisco. The mails could be landed in London in twenty-eight days, and Queensland would be enabled to command a much larger share of the American trade. It was nb!; his intention to offer a service to the Government, but however it was for the people to consider whether it was worth while to follow the project up. In the event of Queensland deciding to have a service, Brisbane would be fixed as the the first and last port of call in Australia, and New Zealand would be dropped out altogether.
