Education Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the Education Board took place yesterday. A good deal of business was transacted. A strong deputation from the Waitaki village settlement appeared and asked that the proposed shifting of the school should not be carried out. The Inspector having been called in, maintained the correctness of his previous report. At the instance of Mr Talbot and the Rev. George Barclay, the matter was postponed for a month to give time to the Inspector to look into the question again. The lowest tender, Mr Hardy’s, £285, for residence at Glenavy was accepted, and Mr Bates’ tender, £25, for painting and repairs at Orari Bridge, was agreed to.
RECOMMENDATIONS OE BUILDING COMMITTEE. The following items submHed and supported by Mr Barclay were adopted :—Tengawai, porch at £l3 ; Temaka, repairs at about £9, to be carried out by the committee * a Wtdl at Ilannuton was approved, contribution £10; Waimate, janitor’s house and flooring in school and porch, costing about £2O; Fairlie, closets and water supply, about £5 10s ; Pleasant Valley, match-lining and varnishing, about £l4; Timiru South, architect to report on certain requests, and to ro-specify for fencing ; Greenhills, for closets £8; Kapua, grant for scrimming and papering, £2; Waitnna Greek, to rent and fence paddock for horses, £5 ; Seadowu, new chimney and other repairs authorised, about £9.
DISTRIBUTION OP CAPITATION TO DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOLS.
Mr Barclay reported for this committee. Emoluments of masters to remain as they are till the end of the year. This arrangement with certain .additions to the staff, giving to W.iimato T 358, and :o Tennika £IBO ; that is to say, all the money received or receivable to be spent on the staff. The report was adopted. WAIHAORUN'GA AND MORVEN. On the motion of Mr Barclay, the office was at once to take steps to have a new school erected at Waihaorunga, and an addition to the Morveu school. TBACIIERSHIPS, The names of all applicants for the vacancies at Waihao Downs, Fairlie, and Ilakataramea Valley were ordered to be sent to the respective committees, with the Board’s preference in each case-. TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION. Mr Gow, on the above subject, read requests and representations from the Timaru organisation. Certain notices from Waimate were also read, all claiming a share of the Board’s help and consideration.
Several matters were, as usual, referred to the Building Committee, to be reported on at next meecing.-
