Lane and Son. ENGLISH MARKETS. Jfcly 7. Wheat.—An Adelaide cargo shipped in February sold at 28s, Wool.—At yesterday’s dragging sale the prices were unchanged. The sale included the following clips':—Truelandi ll£d ; Dunedin, lOJd; Dunrobin, 9|d; Lansdowne, BJ|d; Pare, 4§d. To date 55,847 bales have been catalogued and 41,614 sold. New Zealand beef, 18Glb, fair average quality— Ox fores, 2 l-16d ; ox hinds, 3|d. Wellington July 8.

The Agent-General’s cablegram, dated London, July 6, says ihat the mutton market is dud, :nd trade very disappointing, there being only a hand-to-mouth demand. Canterbury mutton is quoted to-day at Southland, 3£d ; North Island, 31 ; Australian 2£d; River Plate, 2£d. River Plate is in large supply, and is being strongly pushed for sale. The lamb market depends on Manila realising The market is over-supplied with heavy carcases. There is be l ter demand for beef; New Zealand hinds, 3|d } fores, 2|d. The hemp market is depending on Manila reports ;good fair Wellington, t)n spot £25. There a>e hght stocks on hand—267 tons, as against 1012 last year. Cocksfoot seed> 17 b standard, on spot 39s nominal. Buyers are not keen to do business.

SYDNEY SHEEP SALES. ■Sydney, July 8. At the sheep sales 4098 were sold for £28,296, as compared with 3539 shefep for £37,668 last year. This is a fall of about thirty three per cent, though the quality be well maintained The decline is chiefly due io the inability of pa»toralists in the drought-striken districts of New South Wales to come into th-> market.
