School Committee.
A meeting of the Waihmte School Committee was hold last evening, all the members being present except the secretary (Mr Scott) for whoafe absence the chairman apologised* Mr Pitcaithly, headmaster, was also in attendance.
The business before the meeting was the consideration of the nomination of. candidates for vacant seats on the South Canterbury Board of Education.
The Chairman said be thought it vyould be advisable fqr, the.committee to give its support to one candidate and invite , the . other committees in the district to support this committee's nomination*, in order to secure unanimity of action. Members generally concurred, and after a desultory discussion Mr Mathias proposed and Mr Jackson seoonded—“ That the Rev. G. Barclay be asked to allow himself to be nominated for a seat on the Board of Education, bud that in the event of bis consenting, this committee pledges itself to use every endeavour to secure l his return; also, that the various school committees in the: district be written tpasking them to support the bominatibn of this gentle-' mam”
