The Conway Mystery.
Sydney, Juno 20. Jane Smith, in a low, broken voice, made a statement materially the same as at the last trial, closing with a declaration of innocence. Counsel for the defence is addressing the Court. Mrs Smith's statement gave as her reason for not bringing her friends over here as witnesses that it was quite bad enough for herself and her husband.
The judge summed up strongly againsi accused. There was not a tittle of evidence to show that deceased took a tonic and so support the theory of defendant's counsel of aggregation of poison. At 10 to-night the jury were unable to agree and were locked up for the night.
