Waikakahi Creamery.

Following up the meeting held a week or two ago at Waitaki School the promoters of a Creamery determined to hear the views of the Redcliff residents and consequently about twentylive fanners met in the local school on Wednesday evening. Mr J. Scott was voted to the chair and called upon the settlers present to expr as their views. The general consensus of opinion was that the establishment of a C earnery in the district was highly desirable, but opinion was divided as to the question of site. The Redclilf residents favoured a spot near Button’s smithy, while the Waitaki settlers considered I’elvin’s corner more central. Mr J-nnes Breen stated that, in his opinion the Redcliff people would not support a Creamery at Pelvin’s corner and Mr David Wallace replied that the Waitaki farmers would be equally opposed to Button’s corner. It appeared that.for a Creamery at Button's corner 154 cows and 217 shares uad been guaranteed and for Pelvin’s site 118 cows and 164 shares would be forthcoming. As neither side seemed inclined to o ipromise a dead lock seemed inevitable. Mr Breen sngge ted interviewing the directors, as the tichool Committee had done to the Board. Mr McGregor ejaculated. “■ Yes, and we will win the day as we did in Timam” (Laughter) Mr James Scott ’humorously suggested that Mr David Wallace should persuade the Waitaki people to accept a site at Button’s corner. Mr Wallace replied that he could in t depart from his instructions. Eventually it was decided on the motion of Donald Ross “ that the Redcliff Committee submit the result of their canvass to the directors.” It was afterwards decided that Mr David Wallace perform a similar office on behalf of Waitaki. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr D. Wallace, J.P., for bis trouble in attending the meeting and collecting information and to Mr Scott as Chairman was carried enthusiastically. This finished a meeting which though by no means one sit 1< d was orderly and good humoured throughout.
