A PROTEST.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As an employee I wish to enter my protest against.the decision of the Traders’ Association in not closing their business places for the visit of ihe Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. They are allowing the volunteers in their employ the necessary time to take part in the review, but is that fair to those who are not volunteers. There are
various reasons which prevent many from joining the volunteers, and why should they be debarred the privilege of witnessing the review also. I consider it is a very onesided affair, and will not tend to encourage the employees who will he compelled to remain to exert themselves in any way for their employees. As far as I can gather, there will be no business done in Waimate; as the majority of the residents are going to Christchurch. Hoping the Traders’ Association will reconsider their decision and give us what will probably be the only opportunity we will ever get to see Royalty,—l am, etc.,
An Employee.
