Salvation Army Social.

Adjutant Flanagan, of the Christchurch branch of the Salvation Army, addressed a large gathering in the Oddfellows’ Hall last evening on their Fescue Work. His Worship the Mayor occupivid the chair, and Mrs and Miss Flanagan and the Revs. Blight and Morrison were on the platform. Apologies for absence wore received from Mrs Studholme, who enclosed a cheque for £2 2s as au earnest of her interest in the Army’s work, and also from the Rev. McKenzie Gibson.

In introducing t.ie speaker, the chairman referred to the great amount Of good done by the Artuy*every where. Major Flanagan gave an interesting account of the Rescue Work in Now Zealand, especially prison gate work. Many, he said, who had made one slip were shunned by their fellow men, and in despair of being able to gain a footing iu the world, became hardened criminals. To all, but especially to these, the Army had been of great assistance, no less than 750 prisoners having been assisted during the past year.

The Revs Morrison and Blight also spoke of the noble work done by the Army in the reclamation of the fallen. The Doxology was sung and the Rev J. Blight pronounced the Benediction.

Miss Flanagan presided at the piano.' Adjutant and Mrs Flanagan conduct services to-night and to-mor»ow night.
