The Railway Department advertise excursion fares to Christchurch -and Dunedin in connection with the Royal visit and Dchiedin winter show, which opens on the 2oth instant.
The Eastern Telegraph Extension Company are actively arranging for the landing at Adelaide and working of the Cape Cable, which is expected to be completed about October. The Christchurch people are sparing no pains to make the coming visit of the Duke and Duchess a royal one in every sense of the word. The parade of the volunteers will be itself a sight worth seeing. The Waimate Rifles parade at the drillehed to-morrow to attend Divine service at St. Paul’s Wesleyan, Church. A good muster is expected. The Waimate Band will also parade to head the march.

A most successful concert was held at Haunaton on Thursday night, the schoolroom being crowded. After an enjoyable programme of music had been thoroughly appreciated the room was cleared and dancing carried on til! an early hour. A proclamation was published in the Gazette last night appointing. June 11th as the date for the extension of the
boundaries of the colony, to include Cook and other islands. This procla-

The Dunedin City Council adopted the whole of the Tramway Cummittees import to take the Taieri and Lee Stream for generating electricity, and carrying the present King Street line along George street and taking the Castle street line through the Botanic Gardens, thus completing a circuit. The motion referring the question of the necessity of workmen’s homes in the city to the Finance Committee was arried.
