The report of the Standing Committee of the Harbour Board, read at Friday’s meeting of the Board, recommended that steps should be taken to include the Borough of Waimate in the Timarir Harbour District. The Board adopted the report, and" will" instruct its solicitors to prepare a local Bill, to be introduced into the House of Representatives nest session by the Hon. W. Hall-Joues with that object in view. At the meeting of the Hilton School Committee on May 29, a letter was received from the South School Board of Education appointing Mr Strong headmaster. The Committee desired Mr Strong- to give a promise that he would remain at the school five months, but Mr Strong desired liberty to leave as soon as anything .better turned. Therefore the committee recommended Mr Werry* of Burke’s Pass, for the position. On Friday the Harbour Board read a letter from the Christchurch Meat Company complaining of the delay caused in the loading of mutton, owing to the lafik of berthage accomodation* The letter stated that the matter was a serious one to shippers, and if nob remedied would cause a return of the old method of railing mutton to Lyttelton. The New Zealand' Shipping Company also wrote in a similar strain, The Board,, while recognising that additional accomodation ia required, cannot see its way to do more than provide for one extra berth.
