Lower Pareora Water= races.
On inspecting the head works on Wednesday the Hon W. J. Steward found that there was an ample supply of water at the intake, even after a dry season, but about a mile below the intake the great balk of the water leaves the race and runs underground. The problem now is, how the water is to bo brought down below this point. He recommended that settlers interested should represent their case by memorial to the Minister and he undertook to advise the Minister to sand down a mining engineer, who is acquainted with water-races on the goldfields, to report as'to what is required to be done to render the race effective, and what will be the coat of so doing. On receipt of the report the Hon. W. J* Steward promised to advise the Government to join with the County .Council, provided the cost is not too great, in carrying out the necessary works.
