Mr Groom (Queensland) has moved the Address -in-Ee ply. He objected to raising the Federal revenue by direct taxation. Me Crouch (Victoria) iiecontUid Address, and declared for a' Monroe doctrine in the South Pacific. ' He referred to an allusion by Mr Barton, who said, “ If you want toknow about Fiji as# Mr Seddon.” . .. r Mr Barton explained that the allusion was jocular, but Mr Crouch did not regara it. as such: He said that he trusted tha« however friendly they might be with Nefr Zealand, they would not admit a second Commonwealth in the Pacific.
