ADDINGTON STOCK MAHKET. ; , _ Christchurch, May 8. , Tfie yardings" of cattle and pigs were large at the market, but sheep of all classes were in short supply. Fat Cattle.—The 221 hi ad. which formed the beef supply contained i much larger proportion of good steers and prime quality than has been the case of late. Although the sale was somewhat irregular, considering the large supply, good to prime quality' beef held its own fairly well, bat inferior sorts- were easier. Good beef ruled at from 20s to 21s 6d per 1001 b and extra prime up. to 20s, while inferior and secondary brought from 17s to 19s. A nice line of twenty steers from Mr -W, Fi M. Buckley, of DunstCttdel, made from £8 7s 6d to £9 7s 6d, while his- spayed heifers ‘ sold at £7 7s 6d. Prime steers ruled at from £8 to £lO 7s Gd, lighter from £5 17s 6d to £7 10s ; prime heifers from £7 10s to £8 12s Gd, lighter £5 5s to £7; prime cows from '£6 15s to £B, and others from £4 15s to £6 10s. Store and Dairy Cattle —There were very large entries of both sorts and a good demand is being experienced for good sorts. Pat Sheep.—The" ambit yarding of fat sheep was mostly.good ewes, with, "a few lines of wethers. The sale has opened at about 2d : per late rates. Fat Lambs. —The smallest entry of the season dame forward. The quality was very poor all "round,’and "in consequence the prices, although lower than last'week, are better in proportion. Fteezers brought from I3s to 14s lOd, and better Jots for butchers’ purposes from ids 9d' to lis Gd. Store Sheep.—The yarding -’was less than half that of the previous week, and in consequence there was a "slight improvement in prices, more especially ip lambs. A small line of good young «wes brought -148’ XOd ; a line bf fifty lour and Bix.-tooths were passed at 13s 9d, and' 173 aged aorta brought 7s and 132 aged merino ewes 5s 8d; In the wethers, 240 brought 15s Bd, 129Jw0 and four.tooths -14 s lid, 478 do. 14s 9d, and small lot* at 15s, while 770 two and four.toot hs were passed at 16s 9d In lambs, small lots brought from 8s 4d to 12s, 69 at lis 7d, lIS at 10s, 97 at loa 2d, and 250 at 9a Bd. Pigs.—The heavy yarding of' pigs, although it included some good lines of fats, was more-than tothe demand, and a heavy drop in-»li "classes resulted, fiaconers brought‘•3ss to 45s and up to 495-fid for extra prime, equal to 3Jd per lbporkers, 24s to 82s 6d, equal to 3sd to 3fd per lb; large stores, 15s to 21a 6d, sma ler lOs to 12a Gd, and suckers and veaners 4s to Bs.
