Mothers’ Union.
Qn Wednesday, April 21th,' the annual meeting of the Waimate branch of the .Mothers’ Union was held in St. Augustine’s schoolroom, there beinj seventy-one present. After the opening hymn and the reading of the Litany, the rainur.es of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The President then read .the annual report, which allowed that the past year had fieen one of steady progress. Six committee meetings; had been held, with an average att'ejfidanee of ten, and six mothers’ meowings, with an average attendance of fifty-one. Several new members had joined this branch of the Mothers’ Union . At two of the mothers’ meetings addresses had bean delivered by, visiting speakers—one by Mias Yoak, of the Inland China Mission, and one by Mrs E. A. Scott, of Christchurch'. On January 21t.h the sad news reached us of the death of our beloved Queen, and, ac the request of the president, a memorial service was held by the Rev. McKenzie Gibson in St. Augustine’s Church. The Secretary then read the balance-' sheet, which showed that all expenses had been met and a small balance remained on the credit side. The routine business being concluded, Mrs W. Dailey then sang “The Promise of Life” and Mrs Gibson read Tennyson’s poem, “ Enoch Arden.” Then followed the second hymn and the president pronounced the benediction. At the close of the meeting tea was dispensed by Mesdamos McLean, Morrison, Bowse and Studholme, The committee afterwards met for the purpose of electing the new committee and office-bearers for the year, with the following result . —Committee, Mesdames Adame*' Buchanan, W. J. Dailey, Franklin, Garland, Gascoigne, McKenzie Gibson, Griffin, Hamilton, Hurst, Lowe, J. Meunchester, T. Medlicott, McLean, Morrison and Ruddenklau. The following officebearers were also unanimously elected : —President, Mrs Michael Studholme; secretary and treasurer, Mrs McKenzie Gibson; organist, Mrs Garland; accompanist, Mrs Hamilton ; libyarian, Mrs Griffin.
