Timaru's Soldiers.
A meeting of Timaru citizens to con. aider what form the reception to tha Timaru members of the contingents returning from South Africa should take, was held in the Assembly Booms on Wednesday afternoon. About thirtyfive representative gentlemen attended, and a number of apologies were received for absence.
His Worship the Mayor presided, He said that there was no need for him to state the object of that day’s meeting j it was uppermost in all their minds. The sending away of Timaru’s various contingents had been great occasions, but still greater would be that of welcom. ing theip home again. He thought that one big reception for all the South Canterbury men would be better than a number of small ones, and so he had fix'd the hour of that meeting in tha afternoon to allow of people from Temukg and Waimate being present. In reply to questions, the Chairman stated that about twenty men would be cmiing back, and they would most probably come by way of Wellington, by the ordinary express. A number of suggestions were put and discussed, and finally it was decided that a reception should be given to the men on the afternoon of their arrival; a social the same evening, and a ball at some date later on. A. strong committee was appointed to make ad arrangements.
