Waimate Rifles.

ANNUAL M. LTING

The annual meeting of the Waimate Rifles was held last evening after the parade, at which about thirty-live members paraded under the command of Lieutenants Hurst and Jackson. Lieutenant Hurst occupied the chair. The first business was the election of a captain for the corps. SurgeonCaptain Barclay was unanimously elected. Captain Barclay, in thanking the corps for the honour they had conferred on him, expressed his intention of justifying it by his attention to its interests. The balance-sheet for the year was adopted. 'l'his showed the expenditure to have been £297 18s lid and the receipts £313 18a lid, leaving a credit balance of £2l.

The election of officers resulted as follows :

Secretary and Treasurer —Private Porter.

Shooting Committee—Sergeants Smith and Mines, Privates Williams, Bennington, and Wilson. Finance, etc. —Sergeants Mines and Smith and the officers ex officio. It was decided to hold over the annual social until the return of Captain Barclay from the opening of the Federal Parliament. The following honorary members were elected —Messrs Maindonald, Norton 'Francis and John Adams, jun. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Francis for bis kindness in allowing the use of the range, and also to the public for donations towards match trophies during the season.

A vote of thanks was passed to the chairman.
