The Royal Visit.
London, March 28. The Duke and Duchess of York were greatly interested in a trial of the Brennan torpedo at the mouth of Valetta Harbour. The Duchess operated the mechanism used in discharging the torpedo, by which a boat was destroyed two miles outside the harbour.
A grotesque water carnival was arranged by the blue jackets of the British warships. Huge canvas models of the Elephant, the Kangaroo, the Dodo, the Crocodile, and Dragon, illuminated from within, disported on the harbour, which the fleets illuminated by means of their searchlights. • March 30.
The Ophir arrived at Fort Said at 3 o’clock to-day. The Duke and Duckess of York landed. The Duke exchanged visits with Prince Mohamed Ali, the Khedive’s brother, and afterwards visited Cady Strongford’s hospital. He entertained to-night Prince Mohamed, Lord Cromer, and several others at dinner, and resumes his journey early to-morrow.
