Acclimatisation Society

A meeting of the Waimate branch of the Waitald anil Waimate Acclimatisation St|||ioty was held on Tuesday evening ;%i*^Snt —Mr J. Adams (president, in thligMr) and Messrs Binney, R. Smith, ChiWton and Sinclair. Mr ■*H; for his absence. Tlie minutes of last, meeting were read and confirmed. Outward and inward correspondence was read and received. The Treasury Department, Wellington, notified the Society that the sura of filG had been paid in to the credit of the Waimate branch by mistake, and asking that it bo handed over to the Waitaki Society. The President explained that this had been attended to. A telegram was received, stating that the opening of the shooting season takes place on May Ist, It was resolved that rangers be put on to protect the ducks here. The delegates to the united council meeting were instructed to try and arrange one opening day lor the South. Island if possible. The Secretary brought up the subject of getting some pheasants to breed from and liberate over the district. The Waimate Domain Board had kindly granted permission to place them in the park. It was proposed by Mr Smith and seconded by Mr Cbeverton, “ That pheasants be procured, also eggs, and that the matter be left in the hands of the secretary to make full enquiries, with power to act.” Accounts amounting to £l7 11s 6d were passed' for payment, and the meeting terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to the President
