Clearing Sale at Otaio.
On Thursday on the'estate known as Bankfield, lately owned and occupied by Messrs Bruce Bros., a clearing sale of farm stock and implements was held, and was most successful in every way. The estate has recently been sold to a Christchurch syndicate, and consequently everything was for unreserved sale.
There was a very large attendance, buyers being present from a considerable distance, both north and south. A. large number ol buyers went down by the early morning train from Tirnarn, and a good many came up by the morning train from the south to St Andrews, when they were mot by drags from Timaru and conveyed to the Bankflold Estate, which is a little over three miles distant from the St. Andrews railway station.
Bidding was brisk throughout, and the auctioneers had little trouble in disposing of everything which came under the hammer. The reason that the stock, especially the sheep, was so n>ufh sought after, was owing, probably, to the reputation which the estate has established for carrying only the very best purebred strains obtainable, and the auctioneers remarked prior to trie sale that the flock was one of trie best of its kind in the colony. All the stock was in excellent condition, and the sale was well arranged, commencing at. 10.30. and concluding shortly before dark. A liberal luncheon was provided fo' the large crowd by Mr S. McClelland, who, with a large stall' of assistants, was kept busy the whole of the day. The sale was conducted by the Canterbury Fanners' Co-operative As-
sociation, and Messrs Guinness and LeCrc.n, conjointly, and both firms deserve credit for die expeditious manner in which they conducted the business of the sate.
