Augustus Moore was charged at the Christchurch M-gistrates’ Court on Tuesday, on remand, with the theft i-f £2OO from Beuters Agency, where ho was formerly employed. The eviden e went to show that a cheque for £233 was paid through accused on February 4tb, but was not placed to the Agency’s credit. Accused had opened a prif e account at a bank on February 6th, with a credit of a like amount, which had since been drawn except for a .few shillings. A strange incident happened at Auckland on Tuesday morning about 2 o’clock. Mr H. C. Woollmer, manager of the Waitekauri Extended Gold Mining Company arrived fron Tbsm>B about 2 a.m., and had occasion to g 6 to his office. On coming cal, a pair of |rms gripped him and thinking he ’ iwiis bf i g attacked by robbers Mr Woollmer struck at the man, at the same time calling for help. His cries brought, two men upon the scene, and they joined with the first man io endeavouring to secure him. Ultimately it was discovered that the men were detectives who h d taken Mr Woollmers ior a burg'ar, who, in his turn, had taken them for robbers. At Bauksfield, near St. Andrews, to-day, the Canterbury Farmers’ Coperative Association and Meters Guinness and LeCren, will hold an important clearing sale of live and dead stock, farming plant, etc. The stud sheep are in very large numbers, and are said to be an excellent lot. About 5000 flt'ck sheep mostly young, are to be offered, as well as 57 Border Leicester and Linoold rams. A numb rof draught and light hones, cattle and pigs will be pnt to auction, while implements and a very large collection of farm sundries will also be offered.
