St. Patrick’s School Concert.

Thu annual concert in aid of the funds of St. Patrick’s school was held on Monday evening, when the O Idfellows’ Hall was packed. An excellent programme was gone through and thorongldy on joyed by all presnot. The items by the children were perhaps the most highly appreciated, the scarf drill and Killarney dance by the girls, and the wand drill by the boys, being particularly good. Tiie adult performers were all wffil received, Mr Hutton, of Dunedin, who made his first appearance before a Waimate audience, getting a great reception. II is first song, “Off to Pniiad-d----phia,” was loudly encored, and he reappeared and sang “F.uhei O'Flymi.” In the second part, he took Mr McAleer’s place and song “ Mickey O'Brien,” very well. Miss Boyd and Miss Petit delighted their hearers by their finished singing. The former sang “ ivliaimey so Fair,” and fur her encore, “ Eileen Alannah,” narrowly escaping another recall. Miss Petit’s number, “The Dear Little Shamrock,” is always a favourite, and the fair singer did full justice to the song. She responded to an enthusiastic encore with “ Fiddle and I.” In the second part she sang “Killarney” excellently. Both ladies were the recipients of lovely bouquets. Mr J. W Manchester gave a patriotic veision of “The Wearing of the Green,” and was unanimously recalled, while bis second item, “The Isle that’s Crowned with Shamrock,” was, if possible, better received. Mr C. J. Golds*one, who sang “The Lads in Navy Blue,” as usual, received an ovation, as did Miss Sinclair for her violin solo.

The concert was'over shortly after ten o’clock, aiul then the drawing for the art union took place, His Worship the Mayot superintending operations. The winning numbers have already been published in our columns.
