Library Committee.

The Committee met last evening *there being present Messrs Wm. Hamilton (chairman), Scott, ‘Smith, Wills ami Rjv. Mclvenzie Gibson.

In the absence of the Secretary ■(Mr J. H. D an), Mr V. L. Scott ‘Undertook his duties. After the minutes of the former .meeting had been read the Ohairumm saiii he had written to the ‘Council with regard rothetransfer ■of the land promised to the Library, and had received a reply stating that the Council would complete the transfer if it cmd I ■be legally done, and appointing a committee to interview the Library Committee. A discussion took place on the 'whether or not the ‘Council should satisfy themselves mu the validity of the title of the •transfer. Ultiimu-dy it was ■decided on the motion of the Rev.. McKenzie Ginson, seconded tby Mr Smith, that the Council I)',' reminded that a definite oiler of the section was made to the Library Committee, which offer Iras been accepted hy them, and ‘the Con; mit tee respectfully request the Council, at iisearliest ipossiulc date, to effect the transfer, in order to enable the Li '■•‘■•.ry to prv.md with their 'biuuio.g, the (■■■mneii to satisfy themS'--lws as to their power to transfer, and tiiat the Chairman :and Messrs Gibson and Scott be ra. committee to confer in the matter re the area to be transferred, ■the Committee agreeing to the ‘■Council's terms re public reading room.

The Secretary of the Fire Brigade wrote that, owing to the •continual use of the committee reora, the weekly rent after .March 12lh would be 7s fld. It was decided that the Committee discontinue tho use of the room, and ask the Borough for a room in which to meet.
