The Federation Referendum.
Wellington, March 7. The Cabinet reconsidered the question of taking a federation referendum contemporaneously with the census, and the project has been deferred indefinitely, or, in any case, until such time as the report of the Royal Commission has been presented to Parliament and its contents have been made public. Ministers, it seems, have realised that a judgment by the people delivered now could not be of the same value as later on, when fuller evidence will have received publicity.
