Maori Murder Case.
AL'C'imand, March 5. At the Supreme Court, before His Honor the Chief Justice, a Maori man named Ihvwiri Tena was charged with :ho murder, on or about December •27t.ii, at Miranda, of Iliiii Kiwi (hi" uil'e). Tiie prisoner pleaded not guilty. Mr Told, Crown Solicitor, slid that the prisoner was charged with the murder of his wife. They were riding o:i horseback, returning to their homes, when,-it is alleged, the woman was attacked by her husband, and so beaten that she died. A Maori boy, who was out looking for sheep, would give evidence to f ho effect that he k.iw tho man knock the woman about and dash her head on the stones of the beach. Very serious wounds were observed on the woman's head and body when she was discovered. She was brought ba:.;k to tho store in an unconscious condition and died early the next morning. The woman was buried, but tho body was exhumed, and it Wii-i found that a wound at th<! back of the i-.nv sustained by the woman Would have been sulu- I cient to c.auso dearth. The djfenee is that the woman's death wa.-i cau.s. d by a fall from the bars;-, mid with being kicked by the horse after falling. Tho case is pruee'ding.
