o ■■ - - Melbocrn*, February, 22. The Argus states that the joint purse proposal in connection with the Pacific and Cape cable scheme has fallen to the ground. The Premier cf Queensland and Mr Ward condemn it. The opposition from New Zealand came as a surprise, for Mr .Seddon. was the first to suggest pooling the receipts. London, February 22. The Pacific Cable Board meets on Monday to consider whether it is desirable to negotiate with the Eastern Extension Company, or whether the Board should take' action in face of certain of the colonies’ arrangements with the Eastern Extension Company. The Board will also decide what constitutes an all-Britisb cable across America. It is understood that Victoria seeks the Board’s approval to her giving the Eastern Extension Company similar concessions to those which the other colonies have given.
