THE SLAUGHTER LICENSE QUESTION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I noticed in your Saturday’s issue a letter bearing on the above subject, in which the writer complains (and rightly, too) that Messrs Cameron Bros, have not yet applied for a license to slaughter for 1901, Now, sir, seeing that their license expired on December 31st last, I would like to know upon what authority the police allow this firm to break the law with impunity., while other butchers have applied and got licenses. I also wish to point out here that Messrs Cameron Bros, are not the only lawrbreakers in the same business. There is the Makikihi butcher and the St. Andrews butcher, too; neither of these have yet applied for a license. If these three persons are allowed to go on slaughtering regardless of the law, I will soon take steps to bring the matter before the right authority, as ray motto is, “ What’s sauce for the goose shall be sauce for the gander ” so long as I am asked to pay raus. Hoping to see this wrong put right, —I am, etc.. Ex Detective. P.S.—I would like to know, sir, if the Borough Council has been in the habit of granting a license for Messrs Cameron Bros.’ section, as it is in the borough.—Ex D.
