THE MAYOR AND HIS CRITICS.

TO THE EDITOR WAIMATE ADVERTISER. Sir. —The enclosed letter was sent to the Waimate Tunes for publication two issues ago, and owing to certain office arrangements, I understand, has in the meantime, 1 suppose, bec-a refused publicatiou. It is very unfair that everything i say or do should be persistently misrepresented and misreported by the Times, and then that a reply should be held over for weßti, if admitted at all. I bear for two or three months at a time all the distortions of the truth they publish, aod quietly taka no notice, hoping that intelligent, unbiassed people will observe the hostility of a few jealous souls and Vante it at its true worth. Now and again I may have to remind some people that, wichaii the plausible pretence of fairness, the methods of those who have persecuted me for the last sis months are reprehensible *o men who make any pretence at having attained to a respectable standard of conduct. I have, therefore, to ask you to be kind enough to publish the enclosed letter, which I have not y .{ succeeded in getting inserted in the Times. If the public approve of their unpaid servants being treated in the

way I am treated, it reflects little

credit on anyone.
