THE TOWN CLERK.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— ln your report of the Borough Council meeting of Tuesday evening, in Thursday’s issue, I see that Councillor Coltman made most unjust and ungentlemanly charges against Mr Akhurst, the acting town clerk. Mr Akhurst {has been secretary of the A. and P. Association for the last seven months. The accounts and minute-books are kept in a most praiseworthy manner; in fact, onr books have never, previously been kept anything like so well. He has been most indefatigable in his work, and all who have come in contact with him speak in the highest' praise of bis courtesy and gentlemanly manner. I think that when he is so maligned, all those who know his many good qualities should speak for him, so that the outside public may know his sterling qualities.—l am, &c., W. H. Beckett, President A. and P. Association.
