The Colchester Murder.
NOT BLATCH
Messrs Skerrett and Wyllie, .solicitors for Liilywhite, who is iu custody on suspicion of being Blateb, the man charged with the Coichestec murder, have received letters from the Chief of Police at Tacoma (U.S.), enclosing statements from reputable citizens identifying the portrait of the prisoner sent to him as Liilywhite, who they assert was resident at Tacoma-from 1883 to some.time in 189-1, when ho left for Now Zealand. In the Blateh case a letter from the Chief of Police states that a number of Tacoma citizens have identified a photograph as being that of Liilywhite, whom they knew well as a painter and decorator. A, statement is enclosed from F. 0. Clark, whom the Chief of Police warrants to be a reputable citizen, and who says that Lillywhite was never bejo id h’s reach from 1889 to July, 189-1, when ho saw him otr in a steamer to New Zealand. (The murder occurred in December, 1893.) The Chief states that it would be easy to get affidavits of identification from a number of reputable citizens. The portrait of Liilywhite in a trades union group has also been sent. Mr Skerrett says it has been conceded, that if the documents found in the accused man’s possession were his property he could not possibly be Blateh. This, question, he claims, is now set at rest by the correspondence.
